Bio
Let me tell you the story of Transit of Venus so far. It started as a bedroom recording project. Just me and my computer and a couple of guitars. In 2008, I decided to involve some of my friends in recording. The first single was Enemy, based on the theme for a indie computer game called Derelict. It had lead guitar played by Mike Johns and the drums were played by Mark Towel. Anthony Corban began talking to me about involving his record label Black Doris Music.
Next up came the plan of completing an EP. Tory Staples came in as a session drummer, Mike Johns played guitar on a couple of songs as did Robin Liu and James Dudly. Christina Chen played some synthesiser for me, and Harry Champion lay down a couple of bass tracks. Taking a step out of the bedroom, I recorded Torys drums at The Manor rehearsal rooms, and the final step was going to see Dave Edtmaier of Miscreant Recordings who played some bass and guitar as well as mixed and mastered the EP.
Mike suggested the idea of a live band, and the first live show happened Easter 2009 (NZGuitars.com). The line up was me on guitar and vocals, Tory Staples on drums, Mike Johns on lead guitar, Ralph Engle on synth and backing vocals and Harry Champion on bass. We had Robin Liu, Christina Chen and Michelle Klaessens come on stage and play with us too that night.
After the show, having a few drinks with everyone and started to talk to Simon Raby about doing a music video, throwing ideas about and having a laugh. A couple of weeks later we filmed it in one very long evening! The music video for Meatmarket was finished in time to be screened at the Bitter Sweet Love EP release party.

Not long after the EP release we were back in the studio, at Miscreant Recordings. We recorded two new songs, Wake Up and Doing OK. Tory Staples on Drums, Ralph Engle on synth, Mike Johns on guitar, Me on vocals and guitar, and Tim Lomas on bass and in Doing OK Tim switches from bass to a second drum kit halfway through.
After Mike left for the UK we gigged around, Reuben Parlane, Marcel Bellve and Hayden M came to play with us during this time. Sometimes having a continually changing line-up was a lot of fun, it sure made life interesting!
The Nosferatu idea had been sitting in the back of my mind, to write and perform a soundtrack for a silent movie. I played piano, Tory as usual behind the drum kit, Matt Bosher and Marcel Bellve on guitars, and Plum Green as narrator. We performed it on November 20th 2009, and feedback from the live show was good.
At the beginning of 2010 I moved to Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. It was very hard leaving behind so many good friends. Eventually managed to stop crying long enough to get a band together and I look forward to announcing the line-up and playing some shows here soon!
